Sept 15th Update
Tryouts for the boys are going great. We have an 18-1 Team!
They are listed below by “Tryout NUMBERS”
We could add 1 to 2 more players to the 18-1 team in the next couple of weeks.
No practice on Thursday Sept 17th–church activity
Regular practice will start on Tuesday Sept 22 and will proceed on Tuesday and Thursday 5:30-7pm until November.
We will still look to see if we can add a 16-1 team in the next 2 weeks.

All players at “tryout practices” will be listed below.
Either on the 18-1 or as ALTERNATES for 18-1 and/or for the potential formation of a 16-1 team.
We will send WEBPAGE updates every few days in the next few weeks for the alternates. You can also Text or Email Salness if you have questions.
IF you made the 18-1 team: Practice starts next Tuesday.
ALSO there is a Mandatory Parent Meeting
The meeting is at 6 pm at Prince of Peace Church on Thursday Sept 24.
At that meeting you will need to bring cash or a check for $700. (made to ABC Apollo).
There will be a second payment due in November for $700
and a 3rd final payment in Early December for $600.
All payments are NON-REFUNDABLE.
More information will be at the parent meeting.

September 13, 2026 update
Our 2nd night of tryouts is Tuesday Sept 15th at Prince of Peace from 5:30-7pm. ALL players need to return so we can start to make teams. (If you are a boys player still looking for a club this season our registration link below is still live!) Teams will be listed on the website Tuesday night. The number you received at your first tryout will be the number to look for on the site.
No practice on Thurs Sept 17th (Church has an event)
First team practices will be Tues Sept 22nd and Thurs Sept 24th from 5:30-7pm
A MANDATORY PARENT MEETING will be held Thurs Sept 24th at Prince of Peace church at 6pm. The first club payment ($700) is due at this meeting, cash or check is accepted.

BOYS TRYOUTS will be on Saturday September 12, with a supplementary tryout on Tues Sept 15th (time posted below).
Saturday's tryout will be at Prince of Peace from 3-4:30pm. Cost is $30 for the entire tryout. Players must have a CEVA Tryout Membership ($25) and turn in a Medical Release Form signed by a parent to participate. Be prepared to show proof of CEVA membership at check in.

The supplementary tryout will be from 5:30-7pm on Tues Sept 15th.
If we have the numbers for another team we may invite players to return Tues Sept 22nd 5:30-7pm for further evaluation.

Welcome to ABC Apollo Club for this year. This is now the 28th season for the club.
My name is Lad Salness and I am the Founder/Director/Coach for 27 seasons.
We are excited for another season.
Goal is for us to have:
1-2 Boys Teams (16/18s)
2-3 Girls 16s Teams
1-2 Girls 18s Teams
We practice on Tuesday and Thursday night at Prince of Peace Church next to Sunset High School football Field.
We have been practicing with the Church facility for the last 16 years.

We are excited to have year 2 with the Boys Program. OSAA has now made Boys Volleyball an OFFICIAL High School Sport. The season is March to May at your High School.
Club season for boys goes from September to the end of February. Then school VBall starts.
Important Dates for the Boys
Sept 1st, 3rd, 8th, & 10th, we will offer a Skills Camp before tryouts. The cost is $100 and it will be at Prince of Peace church from 5:30-7pm. Players must have a CEVA Youth League Membership to come to camp. This is different than the Tryout Membership (tryout membership is not valid until Sept 12)

Club Philosophy:
We are very unique as a club and have been since the first day the club opened.
1. All players play in every set. The exception will be the 3rd set of a qualifying match. This game is usually to 15 points and we will play the players who are playing the best that day in the 3rd set.
2. We encourage and want to have Multiple Sport Athletes. We want you to play other sports–Basketball, Track, Lacrosse, Softball, Dance, etc. The only requirement for you to play in every match is that you come to every practice that you can without conflicting with your other Sports/Activities. Missing practice for a birthday party, family dinner, or hair appointment do not qualify for an excused absence.

Club Philosophy:
Investment: Club Cost is $2000. $700 is due at the mandatory parent meeting once tryouts have concluded.
Practices: Prince of Peace church on Cornell on Tuesday and Thursdays with time slots of 4-5:30, 5:30-7, 7-8:30. Practice times depend on coaches ability to be at practice and when kids get out of school.
Playing Time: We aim for every player to play in every set/match. We believe that if you are going to pay you should play in every set/match. *Exception if the match goes to a 3rd and deciding set the coach is able to just play the players who are playing the best. When we run out of subs then the coach will leave players in the game who are playing the best.
All Questions about the program or teams or playing time ALL come to Coach Salness who is the director and founder of ABC Apollo (26 years). The coach's job is to coach the kids. Salness's job is that of setting guidelines/policies and how the program runs.
Tournaments: The goal is for every team to play in 2 tournaments a month (power league and a friendship tourney). After tryouts we begin practices on Tuesdays & Thursdays each week with the exception of taking time off for Thanksgiving and Christmas break. Power league runs January through April, with regionals ending the season late April or early May.
We plan for each team to play in at least 1 travel overnight 2-3 day tourney. We are willing to add more but only if the team and parents request that. The goal is to keep costs down. Base cost for the season is $2000, any travel/hotel costs extra. When we do travel we suggest that the parents and players stay as a family (supervision and to help cut costs).
Attendance Policy: ABC Apollo has always supported multi-sport athletes. If the player has a direct conflict with school Basketball, Track, Cross County (etc), they will still play in every set and match. We just need to know what sport and what season at tryouts. We can’t have 6 softball players on one team.
